SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SNAKE BITE
  • puncture marks
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
  • headache
  • double or blurred vision
  • breathing difficulties
  • drowsiness or giddiness
  • pain or tightness in chest or abdomen
  • respiratory weakness or arrest
FIRST AID
  • stay calm
  • immediately apply a bandage to the bitten area with a broad, firm bandage, starting from the extremity and working up the limb.
  • apply a splint to immobilise the bitten limb
  • if possible, do not move the victim
  • call 000 for an ambulance
WARNING
  • do not wash or clean the bite site
  • do not use an arterial torniquet when treating snake bite
  • do not elevate the bite site
  • do not try to catch or kill the snake
  • do treat any snake bite or suspected snake bite as a medical emergency regardless of wether you think the snake is venomous.
  • do contact a licenced snake catcher to identify snake
